Our Curriculum

Welcome to our curriculum information page! We are excited to share with you how we set out our curriculum to ensure a rich, engaging and comprehensive educational experience for all our pupils so we fully foster a love for learning.

The Early Years at Victoria Road is our Squirrel Class who start school in Reception, age 4.

We understand the importance of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in laying the groundwork for lifelong learning. Our EYFS curriculum focusses on the holistic development of children aged 5-11 and recognises the importance of a strong foundation, emphasising both the prime and the specific areas of learning. We aim to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive and develop crucial skills such as communication, language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional growth.

Key components of our EYFS curriculum include:
  • Communication and Language: Encourage children to develop language skills through interactive storytelling, role-play, and conversations with peers and teachers.
  • Physical Development: Promoting physical activity and coordination through indoor and outdoor play
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Fostering a positive sense of self and building strong relationships.

For our Key Stage 1 and 2, we follow the National Curriculum to ensure that our pupils receive a broad and balanced education. Our curriculum is designed to inspire and challenge pupils, preparing them for the next stage in their education journey.

Key Features:
  • English: Developing reading and writing skills through exposure to a wide range of genres including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and Drama. We try to incorporate the opportunity to develop speaking and listening skills through every lesson, as believe talking makes thoughts clear in your head ready for writing.
  • Mathematics: Building a strong foundation in number, shape, space and measure, with a focus on problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • Science and Humanities: Encouraging curiosity and exploration of the world through hands-on experiments and historical investigations.
  • Arts and Physical Education: Nurturing creativity and physical well-being through art, music, dance and sports activities.

Our curriculum not only meets the academic needs of our children but also supports their social, emotional and moral development. We strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

We invite you to explore further, for each subject on our website, where you will find comprehensive information about our teaching approach, and the exciting learning opportunities we offer.
